Committee
The role of the committee is primarily one of governance - to ensure that day-to-day operations remain true to the vision, purpose and philosophy of the organisation. Specifically, the role includes formulation of policy, planning, monitoring and evaluation of organisational activities and performance, ensuring that legal and ethical obligations of the organisation are met, and ensuring that the necessary resources are available to maintain a quality service of maximum benefit to users.
This role is performed on behalf of the members of Suppporting Families Auckland, who vote the committee in at the AGM. We have had a busy year this year as we worked closely with the staff to draft and finalise a strategic plan and business plan.
The committee consists of:
We meet once a month at Fellowship House, generally on the evening of the third Monday of each month. Although currently we function on a volunteer basis, cost of attendance, for example towards petrol costs, can be reimbursed. It all sounds quite serious but we do have fun, and also the satisfaction of giving something back to our community. In addition skills learnt through being part of the committee can be used in other areas of our lives, both professional and personal. Everyone who has lived with a family member suffering from a major mental illness has something to offer the committee.
The amount of input a member gives is up to them, but generally a few hours a month would be required. We are always on the lookout for new members, so if you feel that you would like to know more, please contact Supporting Families Auckland.
